Market Place, Ferryhill
Portfolio Holder - Councillor Zena Roddam
After over 20 years of waiting Ferryhill Town Council have now opened a brand new Town Centre Toilet block in the Market Place Ferryhill.
The original dilapidated toilet block was demolished to make way for a new housing office in the Town. Since then many local residents have requested the construction of some new toilets.
In 2004 the Town Council undertook a Town wide survey to find out if local residents were prepared to pay an increased Council tax to cover the cost of the construction and running costs of new toilets. The responses were divided so the Council decided it did not have a mandate to increase Council Tax to provide the facility.
However the Town Council continued to look for funding to provide the facility until it was able to develop a scheme with some Town Council funding and some funding from Sedgefield Borough Councillors. The Town Council also included two shop kiosks at either end of the block which will be rented out, the income from this will largely cover the running costs of the toilets. Anyone wishing to rent a kiosk should telephone 07795 346070.
The new Toilets are situated in the free Town Council run car park in the Market Place Ferryhill and are free to use also, all within easy walking distance of all the local Town Centre shops and amenities.
