Surtees Doorstep Green
Portfolio Holder - Councillor Mrs Christine Woods
The former Surtees Play Area has been managed by the Town Council since 1974 and was somewhat neglected for many years. The facility is situated in
the Ferryhill Station area just behind the Surtees Public House.
This facility has been completely revamped over the past few years, much to the appreciation of local residents.
Over £110,000 worth of grant funding has been obtained to redevelop this play area, including a Doorstep Green Grant provided by the Countryside Agency and an Aggregates Tax Levy Grant from Lafarge via the Countryside Agency.
This funding has been used to install much needed land drains, new play equipment, new fencing, a basketball court, seating, over 200 trees, a stone circle, a youth shelter, as well as the installation of new paths and lighting for the facility.
Currently works are still being undertaken and it is hoped that grant funding will be obtained to undertake more improvements in the future.
